Dr Shane Brooks

Profile photo of Shane Brooks, an aquatic ecologist from Melbourne Australia

I am an aquatic ecologist and information technology specialist. I run an independent consultancy business leveraging my 25 years of water industry and research experience to improve the sustainable management of rivers and wetlands. I provide pragmatic advice informed by strong scientific evidence, critical analysis and logical thinking.

My competencies and experience in river and wetland ecology and data-driven information technology allow me to efficiently communicate and work with managers, research scientists and IT technologists (nerds).  I pride myself in providing clarity and a bridge of understanding for clients and stakeholders in the business of data gathering, evaluation, information sharing and knowledge building.

My enthusiasm for the environment is balanced by pragmatism knowing the social and political environment in which decisions are typically made and complexities of managing uncertainty and risk.

I work with teams of like-minded scientists to deliver projects that vary in scale from site level investigations up to large scale national strategic management planning projects.
